About Kei Truck US

Updated October 13, 2026Reviewed by the Oiwa Garage team2 min read
Short answer

Kei Truck US is a free guide to buying, importing, registering and owning a Japanese Kei Truck in the United States. It is published by Oiwa Garage, a US parts store for the Honda Acty, Subaru Sambar, Daihatsu Hijet, Suzuki Carry and Mitsubishi Minicab. Legal claims are checked against statutes and agency pages, and every page shows when it was last updated.

Who publishes Kei Truck US?

Kei Truck US is published by Oiwa Garage, a founder-run parts store for Japanese Kei Trucks. Oiwa Garage sells parts for the Honda Acty, Subaru Sambar, Daihatsu Hijet, Suzuki Carry and Mitsubishi Minicab, sorted by chassis code.

We're also active in Kei Truck owner communities on Facebook and on Reddit's r/KeiTruckBuilds. The questions on this site are the ones owners ask us every day.

Why we built this site

Most Kei Truck information online is written to sell you a truck from Japan. That makes it hard to get a straight answer on the questions that decide whether a truck is a good buy: Can I plate it in my state? Which roads can I use? What will it really cost? What breaks first?

We don't sell trucks. We sell the parts that keep them running, so we care about you buying the right truck in a state that lets you use it.

How we research state laws

Every state page starts with the law itself, not with other people's lists.

  • We read the statute, the administrative code, the DMV or revenue department pages and any bill text that affects Kei Trucks.
  • Speed figures get labeled. Some are road limits, some describe a vehicle class, and some are speeds you have to certify. Mixing them up is the most common mistake we see in other guides.
  • When official sources disagree or a state has no clear rule, the page says so instead of guessing.
  • Each state page shows the month it was verified and links its sources.

What we don't do

  • We don't recommend exporters, importers, dealers or registration services.
  • We don't use affiliate links or accept paid placements.
  • We don't recommend workarounds that could break the law where you live, such as registering through an out-of-state company while the truck lives with you.

We do link to Oiwa Garage parts when they help with the job on the page. That's how this site pays for itself.

Our photos

Every photo on Kei Truck US comes from Oiwa Garage's own library: our trucks, our builds and our photo shoots. No stock photos.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kei Truck US connected to an exporter or dealer?

No. We don't sell trucks, we don't take payment from exporters, dealers or importers, and we don't use affiliate links. The site is published by Oiwa Garage, which sells Kei Truck parts. When a part matters to the topic on a page, we link to it.

How often are the state law pages updated?

Each state page shows the month it was last verified. We recheck states when a bill moves, when an agency changes its policy, or when readers send us something new. Laws in this space have changed fast since 2024, so always confirm with your DMV before you buy.

Is this legal advice?

No. We explain the rules in plain English and link the statute or agency page behind each answer. Your state DMV, your county titling office or an attorney has the final word on your situation.

Can I cite or share your state data?

Yes. Link to the page you're citing. The 50-state table is also available as JSON and CSV for anyone building tools or writing about Kei Truck laws.

How do I report a mistake?

Email support@oiwagarage.co with the page, what you think is wrong and a link to your source. If the source holds up, we fix the page and update the verified date.
